The postman delivered the mail a few minutes ago. As usual the Jewish Ledger was part of the mail. And like the weeks before, the postman made the statement, "the all important Jewish Ledger is here, we can all sleep well." So what did he mean by that?
I can not ask him what his comment was intended for, because I am in my place of business and do not want a potential confrontation in front of customers. His weekly comment really bothers me though. I want clarification, just so I understand what he actually means when he says that.
A few weeks ago G Man was in the store when the postman made his delivery and made the same exact statement. G Man wanted to confront the postman outside, but thought better of it because I had customers in the store. I did not mention anything to G Man prior to him hearing for himself what the postman says. The comment apparently bothers G Man too. So I am not just being sensitive.
The comment has a anti Semitic tone to it. I don't like it. Just like I do not like and will not say Indian Giver, Gyp, Welsh on a bet, Jew me down and other obvious racial slurs. That kind of negativeness is not wired in my brain and heart. I do not tolerate it from my kids nor from their friends, or our adult friends and family. Racial jokes are not told in my house either.
I think I will ask the post lady that delivers the mail on Saturdays if she has had complaints from anyone regarding the postman, and then talk to my buddy Chuck at the post office. After speaking with them I will decide if I will confront the postman or file a compliant with the post office.

Being a mailman's wife, I have a suggestion. Call the postmaster and describe your discomfort. If it's a thoughtless comment, he'll at least think twice about how his words might be misinterpreted. If he's an anti-Semite you can't keep that shit hidden at work and his co-workers will definitely know it. As a bonus, if he's a problem employee, this kind of stuff can give the PO a reason to get of him.
Kirby: thanks for the advice.
The fact that he said it more than once is not just a slip or an attempt at humor that goes wrong - he definitely has a problem. Good for you if you follow up on it.
