My husband the dog Groomer

Mark decided he was going to groom our dogs. He bought a dog clipper, which as it turns out he can use to groom cows and horses as well as dogs. A little bonus he did not expect. I did not want to be a part of the grooming process. Some lessons in life I learn well. Not using an electric groomer is one lesson that will remain with me forever.

I made the mistake of thinking I could give my son, who was 8 at the time, a buzz cut. Quickly I learned electric groomers are not something a novice should attempt to use. After two quick strokes of the clippers on my Son's head I knew an emergency trip to the barber was needed. Never will I use electric clippers again.

My husband however did not heed my warning or choose to remember my mistake with our son. So after 20 minutes of grooming, two of our dogs look like they have mange, and could possibly get a sunburn because they have an 1/8 of an inch of hair on their backs, with little island tufts of fur on their sides, legs and necks. They look terrible. He says they look fine and will be cooler in the heat. Mark might be correct about being cooler but I can tell the dogs are depressed and know they look awful.

I really do not believe Mark thinks they look OK. The dogs need their lepto shots this month and Mark said maybe we could wait to bring them to the vet till the end of the month. That length of time should allow for some of the fur to grow back.

HA!

Um, your son still has both his ears, doesn't he?

Doesn't he?

Be careful about the dogs exposure to sun now. We learned the hard way after trimming our Golden's that they need their hair for protection against sunburn.

What kind of dogs???

Clippers are a dangerous item to have. Dogs hate the sound they make to start with and they always stand so still. Sunblock comes in spray bottle now.

JY: yes my son has both ears

SD: I am worried about the dogs getting sunburn I will look for sunscreen in a spray bottle as Doad suggested

doad: I have 2 labs (Jack and Lucy), a cavalier king charles spaniel (Belvedere),a mini long hair dauschund (Sammy) and a westie (Terri). The cavalier and dauschund are the ones my husband groomed.

Loving your new look, cheer!

I've been wondering about shaving my dogs for how long now?

Does it help with the inside of the house? I mean, does it reduce the amount of doggie tumble weeds? It's freaking crazy in this place since the big guys got here!

Mr. Ex bought a clipper thingy once. He used it on my sweet baby boy - once. Basically, I told him that if my son ended up looking stupid that Mr. Ex would awaken in the a.m. with even less hair than he started with! I think the pressure got to him. (grin)

Skyler's dad: glad you like it

Bubbles: it does help some, but the labs shed all the time so the fur bunnies are always around, my hous eis never clean or free from the fur bunnies
