This is what happens when G man does not heed my advice and decides to save $200.00. The picture does not do the face damage justice. It really looks worse then the picture shows.
How did this happen, did Cheer34 hit her husband, did she strike him with an object? NO, NO, and NO. But I would like to have.
5 dogs equals a pet containment system. The system we have at home is a 7K, the labs have to wear a stubborn dog collar because they run through the invisible barrier with a regular collar and the stubborn dog collars only work with a 7K system. So wouldn't it be prudent to have the same system at the cottage? I vote YES!
My vote was vetoed by G Man and the ignorant installer guy. 2 reasons, the installer guy does not like the company we bought our system at home from and did not really want to sell us the 7K system for the cottage, even though he said he had the transmitter we needed and would install it, AND my husband wanted to save money and asked if the old system ( a 10K) from our house would work with the 7 K collars the dogs currently have on. The installer guy said "they should" . My advice was pay the $200.00 for the 7K system so the dogs are safe and we know it works. But nooooo, I was ignored.
The statement from the installer "should work" should have been a clue that something was amiss, but G Man and I missed the clue. So the 10K system was installed and the installer guy left. G Man and I went home got the dogs, whom ( who?) were crazed out of their heads because I had not seen them in 3 days.
When we arrived at the cottage G Man managed to get leashes attached to the labs and the spaniel and get them out the door of the car. He wanted to show them the flags and have the collars beep the warning signal to remind the dogs that a system was in place. But what happened? NOTHING, NADA, NOT ONE GOD DAMN THING, that's what.
The dogs were wild and pulling at the leashes to run, G man was trying to get them in the cottage, but before he got to the top of the rock stairs 2 dogs went one way and the other dog went a different way, G Man caught his foot under the rock stair slammed his knee onto the rock, it was so loud I thought he broke his leg. All the while his hands are tied up in the leashes, the dogs are pulling to escape and I was trying to keep the 2 small dogs in the car, not realizing what was really happening to my husband. G Man knew he was falling and did not want to tumble down the jagged stairs so turned somehow and flew head first into the pricker bushes, just missing the corner of the garage by an inch. The dogs got loose and ran for the road, I went to Mark, who was trying to sit up but had landed so hard he was seeing stars and was dazed. After a few seconds he said he was all right.
We managed to corral the dogs and get them all in the cottage as it started to rain and thunder. G Man refused to be fussed over and cleaned his face and leg with peroxide. Today his face is swollen, scratched, bruised and red. His knee is sore and scraped, but his neck is the worst. He can't turn to the right without pain. He thinks he may have sprained it.
On the way home this morning G Man blamed me for the system not working, he said if I had stayed around while he was discussing the system with the installer they would have put in the 7K. What? I not so quietly or politely reminded him I was the one that said spend the $200.00 for the 7K system. The answer "Ahh oh yeah you did, sorry."
Yeah you better be, or you will look alot worse when I get through with you.

Hey, you should have whacked him for that remark. What's one more bruise at this point?
:-)
Dogs on leashes going crazy can do some damage pretty fast! Hope he feels better soon.
I'm not familiar with the 7k / 10k systems, etc. We use the basic Petsafe. When the golden was young he would break through the barrier all the time, but they improved the collars to be adjustable and the golden got older, so it works very well now.
Bubbles: we use Petsafe. The 7K we have is because our peeping tom neighbor has Invisible Fence which cancels the Petsafe 10K system. How ever G man just called to tell me the 7k is obsolete and Petsafe suggested we move our wire at home to prevent the neighbors from cancelling our signal and go with the 10K which now has a stubborn dog collar. And the 10K is what is installed at the cottage. I'm so excited we get to spend more money on this problem!!!
My money's on the dogs and I take as separate bet that the G Man takes another tumble in Round #3.
Ah!
When I moved from CT to AZ I bought a new one, so I must have the 10k. I have a mix of old and new collars. The big boys have the newer models because they are adjustable. The little ones have the old ones.
I've been buying my supplies (needed some new wire after all the work around here - batteries, etc. at Home Depot. Since I have an acre (sorry, I mean 99.989898% of an acre) of desert dirt and sand I installed the fence myself. In CT Mr. Ex did it, and with all those Connecticut Potatoes (rocks) it was a terrible job.
Good luck!
