Recently Mark and I have been eating a NorthFields. It is a local restaurant/bar that is suppose to be upscale, but really isn't. The service is generally very ssslllloooooooww. The food is good. I always order the Pecan encrusted goat cheese salad and cedar plank salmon. When I find something at a restaurant I like, I do not order anything else. Kinda boring, but I know what I will be eating. I am not fussy I just like what I like.
The other evening while grocery shopping I happen to see cedar planks for sale in the fish department and decided I would buy them and grill salmon at home. The fish was delicious, better then what I get at Northfields. The grilling was really easy and the aroma from the cedar plank was very pleasant. The cooking time only took 20 minutes for 2 of pieces of 1" thick salmon. I sprinkled a little bit of brown sugar on top of the fish just to sweeten it. I think next time I will smear Dijon mustard on the fish and then sprinkle the brown sugar.
After searching the Internet for recipes, which there are many of, I printed out a few for reference in the very near future. Over the weekend I plan to grill on cedar planks, yummy baby back ribs and veggies. After all it is Father's day weekend, Mark will be getting a new grill to celebrate the day and we will be moving into the cottage with a view.
Oh and lets not forget about the beer and alcoholic drinks that will be flowing to celebrate the occasions too. HHHmmmm I wonder if I soak the ribs in beer as a marinade, will they taste delicious with the combination of the smoky flavor from the cedar planks and beer marinade??

I plan on soaking myself in beer to celebrate fathers day!
I just ate breakfast a couple of hours ago, and now I'm hungry again, reading that post...
Congrats again on the cottage!
Try molasses and brown sugar on the salmon - it smokes up a bit, but it's awesome.
