Don't bother reading....

I have seen on a couple of blogs mention the Apostle Paul...because I am not a religious person, nor was I brought up in a specific religion I was not familiar with Paul. So I bought a novel by James Cannon ,"Apostle Paul",to begin my education regarding the Apostle Paul.

There is a reason I bought a novel, and yes I went to Barnes and Noble (another post). Generally if I want to know more about a subject I start with a historical novel or fictional biography, highlight using an actual highlighter pen, events, places, and people and then read historical books regarding those subjects. I have found that historical novels provide some accuracy and a starting point for further reading.

But this is one of the most boring books I have attempted to read, second only to "The Miniatures". I have been flipping pages, looking for some substance in this book. The reading guide inside has a couple of questions that peeked my interests. But I have not found the chapters or paragraphs that provide the answers to the questions. All is not lost, there are a few mentions of sources in the acknowledgement that James Cannon used to write this book. I can start with those.

Because of this book I have a suspicion that Paul was extremely arrogant and self centered. He was a momma's boy, spoiled, and he had tenacity to excel in all aspects of his world. Academics, sports, rape, murder, brow beating, and a passion to prove he was correct and all others were mistaken. The author trys very hard to give a positive spin on Paul, but I can only see the negatives. Paul was an ass.

I am also reading the "The Templars" by Piers Paul Read. He mentions Apostle Paul, which has increased my curiosity regarding Paul. So I have a path in front of me and hopfully at the end of it I will know Paul better and with more understanding.

As a side note: I should have read the back cover of the book "Apostle Paul" with more care. At the very top, the first excerpt is from a letter written to James Cannon, " I have just finished Apostle Paul. I enjoyed your book alot. I read the Bible, and your book helps me better understand the letters and life of Paul." hahahaha,,, The letter is from President George W. Bush.

Georgie reada?! Bwahaaaaahaa!

Don't you hate when you get suckered in by a book? I picked up something new from the library and didn't realize until I finished it that it was on Pope-rah's reading list.
