Oh my poor dogs

We heard from the vet about Belevedere the Cavalier. He has a fairly serious heart murmur. My understanding is that with medication we can control some of his symptoms but not prevent the eventual failure of his heart valve.

At night the symptoms are very noticeable. He pants often for long periods of time, is always thirsty, coughs and once in awhile he vomits. UUggh. I feel so bad for him. He gets off the bed for water, or lies on the floor when he pants, then wakes me up when he wants to get back on the bed. For some reason Belevedere can't jump up on the bed after he has a panting attack. He barks or cries until I pick him up. It's not like I sleep well anyway, (ya know that time of my life, night sweats, insomnia etc), so I don't mind making Belly comfortable.

The vet would like to do an ekg and a chest xray before we start Belly on medication. I guess the vet needs to see how bad the murmur really is, to determine how much and what kind of meds.

We are still waiting to hear the results of Sammy the Redhead's ultra sound. Hopefully by the end of today we will know something. He is lethargic and not as sprite as he was a few weeks ago.

I love my dogs.

I'm sorry your dogs are ailing. I love my dogs so much, the little bastards. I dread the day that they get old enough to start declining.

Sorry to hear about poor Belevedere, I hope it turns out well for him on the medication.

Hugs!

Good luck with your babies. I can't stand it when any of mine aren't well. When one of my cats lost one of his back legs (got hit by a car. he didn't just miss place it) I had him sleep in the bed next to me kinda craddled in my arm.
They know you love them.

Oh, I'm so sorry, Cheer. How old is Belly? My Cav Cory has started crying to come up on my bed. I think it is that I put the laminate floor in, though. He slips too much. Well, I sure hope so!

Thanks everyone.

Bubbles: Belly is 7, we thought we were past the heart murmur thing when he got a clean bill of health at age 5 & 6. that is usually when the murmur shows up in the Cav breed.
