EEEEEWWWWWWW

G Man just called me to let me Lucy does not have a yeast infection. The vet had to squeeze her anal glands. EEEEWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEWWWW EW EW EW EW EW EW!!!!!!

AND.... we have to apply cortisone to her vaginal area because everything there is irritated. WHY you may ask is it irritated.? Because she is fat. A female lab is not suppose to weigh 80lbs. She has to lose 10-12 lbs. So no more cookies, only carrots, and no more grazing. We have to feed her at night only.

So what about the other dogs. Well we are going to have to figure out how to feed them all at the same time. Normally we have two bowls of food out all day and the dogs just graze. Well no more of that. I think if we sneak in a little bit of wet food in each of the bowls that may entice them to eat at the same time. Then pick up the bowls and not give in to the pleads of more food and cookies. They could all do with some weight loss, except Terri. She's old and can have what ever she wants when she wants it.

Anal sac squeeze: just thought I would share this little tidbit of information I found on the Internet. I know some of you have dogs.

If you want to try this at home it is often possible to do so. The anal sacs are located at about the 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock positions if you imagine the area around the rectum to be a clock face. It is usually possible to feel them under the skin at these points when they are full. In some dogs the sacs can be pretty far to the side of the rectum but most are about 1/4th to 1/2 inch to the side. If the glands are pressed against each other by pinching the rectal area together they will usually express. It is hard to get them as empty as the vet can by doing this rectally but most pets tolerate it better so it can be done more frequently. Don't push so hard that you rupture an anal sac, though. That leads to significant problems.
If you succeed, you should see an exudate exuding from the ducts. It can vary from liquid to a thick paste and may be gray, tan, brown or black and be normal. Blood or other colored exudates may indicate a problem.

I know all about anal glands from dealing with our dog Fuzzknuckles. As far as I'm concerned, $40 a month to have the vet wash her and give her an ass squeezin' is more than worth it. I once thought about doing it myself. I walked into the back yard and snapped on some rubber gloves, and you should have seen her run.

Kirby: hahaha that's funny. I agree $40 a month is money well spent. There is no way I am touching, gloved hand or not, my dogs anal sacs.

Kirby- I run when I see rubber gloves too.

Cheer- I'm with the gang on this one - pay someone else to do it!

Hahahahaha

Cheer, this is a riot. I know about these anal sacs.

Mr. Ex used to do the 'butt squeeze' for the dogs on a semi-regular basis!

He could never, ever, ever pay someone to do those things if he could do it himself...

Yuck. So far my dogs do just fine with no butt squeezes...

We feed once a day. I can not believe it works!!! I was a grazing feeder forever. Mr. Ex trained the big guys, and now that they joined the little ones here, it is a survival thing. They eat when it is served... or go hungry.

Everyone is fit as a fiddle! Amazing!!
