My husband loves bargains. Me, only if they make sense and are equal in quality to the non bargains. We argue over the cost of dog food, chewies, and dog biscuits, as we have 5 dogs and they eat and chew a lot. My husband goes for the bargain brand of biscuits, after losing the battle of dog food.
He lost the food battle because our yellow lab Lucy could not tolerate the bargain brand food he bought at Big Lots. The poor dog would vomit, have diarrhea, and get smelly ear infections from the chicken and by products in the food. We switched to a lamb and rice with no chicken by products etc, only available at the pet store and about $20 more for a 40lb bag. However, for some reason in my husbands mind the dog getting ill did not equate to the biscuits.
So, 3 vet visits later at a cost of $120.00 per visit for the exam, scooping the gunk out of the ear and looking at it under the microscope, ear cleaning, medicine and with the vet confirming the nasty yeast infections in her ears are due to a chicken allergy, my husband has acquiesced to my motherly instincts. He has agreed to buy the more expensive biscuits, carrots and rice cakes the vet suggested we give to all our dogs. He figured out that the vet visits were costing more per year then the cheap biscuits.
A side benefit to better biscuits, rice cakes and carrots for the dogs. These treats should help all our fatties loose weight.

Oh, we went through that! My black lab, who had to stay in Connecticut, got the absolute worst gas... OMG! when he had cheap dog food!
Five dogs?! Good god, y'all!
