Measurements

Last night I met with the personal trainer I worked with over the fall to discuss changing my workouts and to have my physical progress measured. I am happy to write that I have lost 9 lbs of body fat. Not muscle mass but fat. The trainer used a tape measure, some kind of pinching device that measures body fat, a flexibility machine and the scale to give me the details.

The loss of fat, which turned out to be 3% of my total body fat brings me 1% below the high normal range for a woman my age and height. When all the loss of inches are added up the grand total is about 6 inches. The biggest loss and surprise was my triceps. I did not realize I had the grandma flab as bad as I did. G man was happy to know that I did not loose inches in the chest area.

My total weight is 22lbs heavier, after the 9 lb loss, than I should be, but that is ok because I am making see able progress.

The trainer advise me to cut back on the minutes of cardio 1 day a week by 20 minutes to help facilitate greater weight loss. She thinks my body is not giving up the poundage because I am using to0 many calories working out and my body has gone into starvation mode. MMMM maybe. I am not sure about that. I will have to find more info on the Internet and perhaps try her suggestion for 2 weeks to see if the weight does come off faster. I also have to step up my weight training from 2 days to 3 days. Fine by me. I have started taking a class that is all weights and abs so that should help.

We discussed diet a little bit, she agreed that my slow changes are a good way to eat healthier and to continue on the adding veggies and fruits to my daily diet path. If I could get G man and Double G to stop buying peanut butter, ice cream, breads, sugar desserts, sausage, ribs, wings and pizza ( you notice I did not include beer) we will all be better off. Me especially when it comes to peanut butter. Smooth Peter Pan by the spoonfuls. It's my second favorite food.

My resting heart rate is 65 and the blood pressure is 120/70, which I thought was high for me. My blood pressure has been 112/68 in the past ( ok maybe the far far past) so I 'll take the 120/70. Both the heart rate and blood pressure are lower than when I started in August.

All in all I am happy with my progress. Slow, steady, and with a few changes maybe I can tweak the weight loss to a speedier drop off. Yeah!!!! for me.

I know what you mean, I can't seem to lose many pounds but I can see progress in the fattage on my body so I keep it up at the gym but it is difficult when you see these little skinny girls that weigh 120 getting on the scale and I don't weigh anywhere near that. Keep up the good work! Mabey we'll be skinny together one day.

superwoman: skinny is good..i would like to reach the high range of weight for my age and height by sept...that would be aloseof 22 lbs....it's a goal that I can make if I cut back on some calories...Itried 1200 calories a day for a week maybe 10 days but I felt tired all the itme so I increased the calories...actually I do not keep count any more I just eat better food

Teri: the personal trainer was for 8 one hour sessions to help me get started...I can't afford to have one full time...part of the membership fees at the gym are to meet with a trainer 4 times every 6 weeks only for measurements and discussing current and new workout routines...if I want to work with a personal trainer the cost is 40 per hour...I 'll take the 4 times every six weeks at that price

SK and Doad: Thanks for the encouragement....

cheer - yes it is all about better choices and if you do eat too little you are defeating the purpose, when i was on my big gym kick i didn't really watch my calories just made better choices, at more times a day but smaller portions. my biggest weight loss came when i added a class that was a non cardio class but was actually a weight lifting based class called body pump. alot of gyms have a form of this class. it is great because even though it is a group class you can still pretty much go at your own pace. and i found out that since i was creating more lean muscle weight it was easier to loose the bad fatty weight.

good luck and keep up the good work!!
