A book I don't like

A while ago I started to read "Johnny Got His Gun" and could not finish it. I knew the ending was going to be awful. Just thinking about the book gives me the collywobbles (see the link for this word if you do not know what collywobbles are) http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/97050.html

Double G and I last night were discussing books we have read recently and he mentioned "Johnny Got His Gun", I think we started talking about books because he finds my banishment from Barnes and Nobles funny. But anyway, Double G read the entire book, he said he could not put it down, that the book is intriguing. Go figure. He told me the ending. I could not help it but I started to cry.

How many of our soldiers have end up like that. Prisoners within themselves. I hate the book for the sadness I got from it and I hate Bush for causing this never ending war we are in.

I remember the effect it had on me all the way back in Jr High. It should be required reading for all those who would put the troops in harms way at a whim.

Tell Double G to pick up "Dirty Work" by Larry Brown. Similar theme and equally compelling.

Dalton Trumbo was one of the "Hollywood Ten"-- scriptwriters, etc. who refused to "name names" during the McCarthy-era witchhunts. He's one of my heroes.

I read that book in high school and did a report in front of the class. I loved it, I couldn't put it down. There's also a movie. The song 'One' by metalica is about that book. Their video has clips from the movie in it.
You're right, it's a tear jerker.
I agree with skylersdad.
