Double G

My son moved into an apartment over the weekend. He has saved enough money to pay his rent and utilities for year. I am sort of OK with his moving out. It's hard to cut the apron ties.

He is 19 and a Junior in college. Greg, Double G as Vegass like to call him, is a licensed Real Estate agent selling several properties in the year he has had his license and has 3 new listings, delivers pizza Thursdays thru Sundays, and fills in at the pizzeria when needed. He also helps coach the youth football teams, and his former High school football coaches have him helping with camps and the varsity football team. Greg starts college classes the day after Labor Day.

There are 3 young men, including Greg, that share the house. Prior to agreeing to move in with the other 2 guys Greg made sure that they all agreed the house was not going to be a party house. One of the guy's parents owns the house and wanted assurances too that the boys were not going to have parties. All agreed, no parties.

The house is really nice, built in 1880, the owners had the hardwood floors done, painted all the rooms, put in a dishwasher, washer, dryer, completely renovated the full bath on the upper level and the half bath on the lower level. Furnished the kitchen, living room and dining room. Replaced all the blinds, light fixtures, had Internet and cable installed. The house has central air, and an alarm system. Parking on street, no big deal.

I haven't been in my son's room in our house. I know I will cry a little so I have avoided his room. Because Greg knew I was sad about his move, the first night in his apartment he called me at 11pm to say good night. I love that kid.

My kids have all moved out once, but they've all come back. The younger two brought more with them. You're lucky, none of my kids can save a dime but I set a poor expample.

Nothing I say can stop you from worrying but obviously he's a good kid and as proud as you are now, you'll be even prouder some day.

To all: he is a great kid, and I know there will be paries at his house. I think he was trying to make sure the parties are not the out of control, friends bring friends who bring friends, type of thing. Kids only have those types of parties at the parents house when mom and dad are out of town!
